Rural coliving for climbers, an hour from Madrid. Bouldering season in the Sierra de San Vicente runs through the cooler months, and it pairs unreasonably well with deep work. Hard problems in the afternoon, a clear head at the desk the next morning. The rock is minutes from the house, and the coworking has dual 600 Mbps fibre for the hours in between. Peak conditions are still a few weeks out, which is the good time to arrive. You get your work rhythm sorted while the rock is merely decent, and you are already settled when it comes good. ## The rock rewards footwork over force Bayuela sits at the edge of the mountains, and the granite forest around it is full of blocs of every size. The climbing is technical rather than powerful. You spend more time reading a sequence and trusting a bad foot than you spend pulling hard, which is a decent counterweight to a day of thinking. Many sectors face the sun and sit close to the village, so winter here is not a fight against the cold. Light layers, long dry afternoons. ## From desk to crag The sectors are close enough that a session is not a full-day mission. That is the whole trick. Climbing stops being a trip you plan a weekend around and becomes something you do between the morning's work and dinner. Most colivers land on the same shape of day. The morning goes to one long work block, quiet office, a connection that does not drop a call. The afternoon goes to two hours on the rock. Dinner is shared, and you are back in time for it. ## Beta at the dinner table Winter changes the house. It gets dark early, so everyone ends up in the kitchen. People trade beta over dinner, pads pile up by the door, and the next session gets planned before anyone has cleared the plates. Nobody here talks much about grades. What the climbing does is give the week a shape that work alone never gives it. ## The weather is not a gamble Winter here is stable and sunny, so you are not betting a week of your life on a forecast. That is what makes a longer stay worth booking. You can run a project on the rock and a project at the desk in the same month and expect to finish both. Come before the peak. The first week always goes on working out where the good blocs are and when your calls land, and you would rather burn that week on mediocre conditions than on the best ones. The cooler months are the good ones. Hot Castilian summers are for early mornings and the pool, which is open in July and August. Spring and autumn are the sweet spot for both climbing and working. Do I need my own gear? Bring your shoes and a chalk bag. Ask us about pads and where to go. The sierra is full of problems that are not in any guidebook, and someone here usually knows them. Can I work here and climb in the same trip? That is the usual pattern.
