A rural offsite here means the whole property is yours. 110 km from Madrid and from Barajas, about 1h15 by car. Ten accommodation units, so nobody sleeps off site. A 200 m² coworking on dual 600 Mbps fibre for the working blocks, and our own chef two minutes' walk away. Groups are usually 10–20, and we quote per group. Most offsites in Spain still run to the same template. A hotel in the city or just outside it, a carpeted meeting room, thin coffee, an activity someone in the People department booked because an activity had to be booked, and the commuter train home. It works. It changes nothing. Teams who want something else are looking at the countryside now, and at it as a place to work rather than as scenery. More and more teams come to Hamlet's Friends for quarterly planning, for a kick-off, for a product week, or for the argument about where the company should be in two years. Conversations slow down. The uncomfortable subjects come up earlier. Ideas that have been postponed for months finally get the hours they need. There is no rural magic in it. We take away the background noise, the notifications, the meetings stacked on top of each other, the hurry to get home. What is left is the team, the problem and the time. ## Real infrastructure, not improvised The coworking is 200 m² and it was built to work in. Two 600 Mbps fibre lines, a meeting room where video calls hold, ergonomic desks, break areas indoors and out, coffee and tea included, a printer, whiteboards. It is not a country lounge with a weak Wi-Fi signal. It is an office. The five wooden cabins, the five hostal rooms, the coworking, the garden and the common areas, yours alone for two, three or five days. Nobody negotiates over a room or a time slot, and the meeting room does not stop at the door. ## A kitchen that doesn't interrupt the day El Molino, our restaurant in the village, cooks for the whole stay. We agree the menus with you beforehand, the produce comes from around here, and mealtimes follow your programme rather than ours. What people remember afterwards is usually the dinners. Long table, wine from the area, no phones, conversations that would never have started at the office. ## The activity that doesn't feel like one We don't run escape rooms or corporate scavenger hunts. What we suggest instead is plainer and, in our experience, works better. A walk up into the sierra at sunset. An afternoon at the stove together in our open kitchen. A wine tasting with neighbours from the village. Bouldering for whoever fancies it. A team does not come together over a corporate game. It comes together over something the group actually did. ## If you're planning your next offsite Write to us with possible dates, how many of you there are, and what has to come out of the days. Next year's strategy, a new team that has to get to know each other, a product sprint, a party. We send back a proposal with room layout, menus and logistics. From central Madrid it is an hour, so your colleagues arrive before they would normally have reached the office. ## How far ahead teams book Most teams write to us six to eight months ahead, and with that much notice nothing is tight. September to November and January fill up first, so those are the months where the head start earns its keep. Shorter notice works more often than people expect, because plans move and dates come free again. Asking costs nothing. ## How we price an offsite We deliberately don't keep a per-person rate card. A two-night workshop for twelve and a three-day kickoff for forty need different things, and one headline number would get both wrong. Send dates, headcount and what the days are for, and we send back a costed proposal for accommodation, workspace and meals. Not a brochure. ## Getting a team here 110 km west of Madrid on the A-5, about 1h15. From Barajas it is the same drive without crossing the city, which counts when people are flying in from different directions on the same morning. Anyone coming by bus or train gets as far as Talavera de la Reina, 20 minutes from here, and we work out the last leg with you.
