Is there a minimum stay?

People come for a few nights and people come for months. There's no minimum. Staying longer pays, though: the nightly rate drops at seven nights and again at thirty, which is part of why most guests end up here longer than they planned.

What is the difference between a room and a cabin?

The five Molino rooms have a private bathroom and a desk, inside the main house. The five wooden cabins stand out in the grounds and are self-contained, so more privacy and more birdsong. One is a family cabin that sleeps four, from €104.50 a night.

Well-behaved dogs and cats up to 20 kg are welcome. Tell us when you book so we can confirm it and give any allergy-prone guests a heads-up.

How far is it from Madrid?

110 km, about 1h15 down the A-5 from central Madrid or Barajas airport. Talavera de la Reina is 20 minutes away for trains, shops and errands.

Three options, and most people use all three. El Molino, our own restaurant, is two minutes' walk away in the village. Lunch Tuesday to Sunday, dinner Wednesday to Saturday, mains from €16. The shared kitchen is where the communal cooking happens, and every cabin has its own kitchenette for the days you'd rather not speak to anyone before noon. Meals aren't included in the nightly rate. The restaurant is à la carte.

We have 5 wooden cabins under the oak trees: 1 spacious family cabin and 4 smaller ones. Each one is a self-contained little house with its own bedroom, living room, kitchenette and bathroom. Outside is your own terrace, with the Spanish sun, a great deal of birdsong and the occasional cow wandering past to see what you're up to. Cabin guests use everything shared as well: the garden, kitchen, community room and coworking space.

The Molino is our restored two-story wooden building, and it holds 5 individually decorated rooms. Each has its own bathroom, a small work desk and a cupboard. Take one if you like a house with other people in it and still want a door of your own to close at the end of the day. Dinner, solved

You will not cook every night. We planned for that.

El Molino is our own restaurant, two minutes' walk away in the village and a different building from the Molino rooms. It's the reason nobody here spends a month negotiating with one small village supermarket.

Seasonal Castilian cooking over a wood fire, vegetables from a garden a few metres from the kitchen, and the rest from the people who work this land: the herder up on the sierra, the mill that presses our oil, the baker from the next village.

Lunch Tuesday to Sunday, dinner Wednesday to Saturday. Mains start at €16, and the rice dishes are €13–15 a head, need two people and a bit of notice. Which is a fair description of most good evenings here.

Your cabin still has its kitchenette, and the shared kitchen is still where the burnt-toast incidents happen. Meals aren't included in the nightly rate. This is just the other option, and it's two minutes away.

Life in the Sierra de San Vicente

Hamlet's Friends sits in Nuño Gómez, a granite village in the province of Toledo where the plains of Castilla-La Mancha begin to fold up into the Sierra de San Vicente. This is dehesa country: open woodland of holm and cork oak grazed by cattle, with the higher peaks of the sierra rising to the north (the range tops out around 1,370 m at Cerro de las Cruces). It's quiet in the way cities forget is possible. Birdsong, the odd cowbell, and a night sky thick with stars. For a rural coliving in Spain, the place itself does most of the work.

And yet you're not cut off. We're about an hour and a quarter from Madrid, roughly 110 km. Talavera de la Reina, the nearest town, is twenty-odd minutes away for a supermarket run, a train station or a proper night out. Most guests arrive by car down the A-5 motorway. If you're coming without one, take a train or bus to Talavera and we'll help you sort the last short stretch.

Days here keep a rhythm the city tends to flatten. Mornings are for deep work with the windows open; afternoons might mean a walk into the oak woods, a swim, or a drive to one of the granite villages scattered across the sierra. Weekends stretch to Toledo, to Talavera's famous ceramics, or to the hiking trails up toward the high peaks. There's always something going on, and never any pressure to do it.
