Why This Matters
Hamlet's Friends builds real infrastructure for modern work in rural Spain. We're based in Castilla-La Mancha, and what we make is practical: places where remote and distributed teams can work without living in a city.
We're an EU-funded project through FEADER, and ENISA has recognised us too. Both of those come with a commitment to innovation and to rural development that lasts.
The Challenge
Rural Spain has structural problems, and they land on the people and businesses still there
Rural Depopulation
Young people keep leaving for the cities, and the population left behind gets smaller and older. Past a certain point a town no longer has the numbers to keep its services or its economy running.
Infrastructure Gap
Offices, reliable bandwidth and business services all sit in the big cities. Rural remote workers and small companies go without the basics they need, and there's no local substitute for them.
Economic Isolation
With no infrastructure, a village is cut out of the modern economy. Local businesses can't compete on equal terms, and anyone with skills worth selling ends up moving to a city to sell them.

The decline can be reversed. Once a village has the infrastructure, the connection and somewhere decent to work, companies are willing to engage with it. When companies engage, people move in. More people make the next company easier to convince, and that's the cycle we're trying to start.
