A New Way of Working in the Countryside: Our Rural Coworking Launch

This weekend, Nuño Gómez came alive. We opened the doors of Hamlet's Friends and, with a garden full of neighbours, friends and one or two curious cows, we celebrated something we had been working towards for a long time: a new way of working in the countryside. Not a holiday with patchy Wi-Fi, but a real place to do your best work, an hour and fifteen minutes from Madrid in the Sierra de San Vicente, Toledo.

What we mean by a new way of working in the countryside

Most of us were sold a false choice: the city and a proper desk, or the countryside and a weak signal. Our whole rural coworking launch was about refusing that trade-off. A launch day built on community

The day belonged to the people who made it possible. Local residents, visitors from the surrounding villages and the partners who backed the project from the start all came to mark the moment. Guests wandered the coworking space, peered into the private cabins that will soon host remote workers and digital nomads, and spilled out onto the grounds for the kind of conversations you simply don't have in a meeting room.

There were refreshments, there were stories, and there were introductions to our most photogenic neighbours: the cows that graze the next field over and have already adopted us. That mix of serious work amenities and unhurried rural life is the whole point of Hamlet's Friends, and it was good to watch people feel it for themselves rather than read it on a website.

Why we built it in Nuño Gómez, Toledo

We chose this corner of the Sierra de San Vicente for a reason. You're roughly 110 km and one hour fifteen from central Madrid, with Talavera de la Reina as the nearby hub for trains, shops and anything you forget to pack. Close enough to arrive before you'd normally reach the office; far enough that the noise genuinely falls away. A 5.0 rating from 183 Google reviews suggests our first guests agree.
