A new way of working in the countryside: our launch

We opened the rural coworking at Hamlet's Friends with a garden full of neighbours, friends and a few curious cows. The workspace is 200 m² in a converted golf clubhouse in Nuño Gómez, Toledo. This is what that weekend looked like, and what it told us about why a village of 100 people wanted one.

What we mean by a new way of working in the countryside

For years the choice looked like this: a city and a proper desk, or the countryside and a weak signal. We built the coworking to refuse that trade-off. You get the quiet, the oak trees and the slower mornings, and you also get the infrastructure your work depends on. The view changes how you think. The fibre means nobody back at the office notices you left.

Who turned up on the day

The day belonged to the people who made it possible. Neighbours from Nuño Gómez, visitors from the surrounding villages, and the partners who backed the project from the start. People wandered the coworking space, looked into the private cabins that will host remote workers and digital nomads, then drifted out onto the grass, which is where the good conversations happened.

There were drinks and there were stories, and we introduced everyone to our most photogenic neighbours, the cows that graze the next field over and have decided we belong to them. A proper desk and a slow afternoon is the whole pitch, and it was better to watch people work that out for themselves than to have them read it on a website.

Why we built it in Nuño Gómez, Toledo

This corner of the Sierra de San Vicente sits 110 km from central Madrid, about an hour and fifteen minutes by car. Talavera de la Reina is the nearby hub for trains, shops and whatever you forgot to pack. Close enough that you arrive before you would normally reach the office. Far enough that the noise stops. Our first guests seem to agree: 5.0 from 183 Google reviews.
