The golf clubhouse that became a coworking space

The building is why this place looks the way it does. It was the clubhouse of the golf course at Nuño Gómez, the room players walked into when they came off the last hole, and by the time we got hold of it, it had stopped being that. We changed less than you would think. The long room with windows down one side is still the long room with windows down one side, the bar is still a bar, and the doors still open straight onto the terrace. Out went the lockers and the nineteenth hole. In came desks, meeting rooms and a few corners quiet enough for a call. A clubhouse is already built for people who turn up, sit down, talk and leave again, which covers most of what a coworking space has to do.

An hour and a quarter from Madrid

Nuño Gómez is 110 km from Madrid, about an hour and fifteen minutes on the road, with Talavera de la Reina the nearest town of any size. That distance does a lot of work. You are near enough to go in for a client meeting and be back the same evening, and far enough that nobody drops by unannounced. Plenty of people spend longer than that crossing Madrid to reach an office.

What the space is actually like to work in

A rural coworking space is only as good as its internet, so we put in dual 600 Mbps fibre on two independent lines. There are desks you can leave a laptop on overnight, meeting rooms, and corners where a video call bothers nobody. Between calls you can walk out into the sierra. That is the one thing an office in Madrid cannot offer. Coworking and coliving in the same place

This is a coliving as much as a coworking. There are cabins and rooms on site, so the end of the working day does not have to mean a drive back to the city. It usually means dinner with whoever else is around, and then the terrace until it gets cold. The people are half the reason anyone comes back, which is probably why we sit at 5.0 out of 183 reviews on Google. If you live in the province and just want a good desk, that works too. Nobody has to move in.
